SLA Benefits

Avoid traditionally expensive tooling costs, by producing cost-effective small to medium volume prototype production runs.

Design parts for investment casting, with a thick outer shell and a honeycomb interior.

Create incredibly accurate parts, with smooth finishes and fine features. The open-source nature of SLA means that our team at Bay Area 3D Printing can help you find the perfect material property for your project.

Design applications include: small to large prototypes, master patterns for low-temperature molds, and large models for the automotive or entertainment industries.

How It Works

Stereolithography (SLA) uses UV layers to trace and solidify a single layer of material resin in a specific geometry. Once each layer is completed, the build platform lowers at a precise distance. The aqueous photopolymer is then spread across the platform. The process is replicated until your model is completed.

Some post-processing is required on SLA parts, with the manual removal of supporting structures. Many SLA parts require a second post-processing step, through an Isopropyl alcohol bath and a secondary UV light curing.
